The History (No Novocaine Required)

McTeague’s Saloon takes its name from Frank Norris’s famous 1899 novel about a dentist who lived and worked right here on Polk Street. But don't worry—we’ve long since traded the dentist chairs for cozy wood booths and the sound of drills for the roar of the crowd. The only "extractions" we do these days involve pulling a perfect pint and taking the top off a cold bottle.

The Spirit

We aren't just a bar; we’re a local institution where the hospitality is as thick as the head on a Guinness. Since we opened, we’ve aimed to keep that "Old San Francisco" spirit alive while serving up a proper Irish welcome. Whether you’re a "regular" from around the corner or a traveler looking for a home away from home, you’ll find that at McTeague's, there are no strangers—only friends who haven't met yet.

The Games & The Pours

We serve up the best of both worlds: the cozy charm of a Dublin pub and the high-octane energy of San Francisco’s premier sports hub.

  • The Global Game: We’re the first ones open for the Premier League and the last ones standing for the UFC.

  • The Perfect Pour: From ice-cold lagers to a stout poured with patience, the drinks are stiff, the stories are long, and the game is always on.

Sláinte, and we'll see you at the bar.
